Episode notes

Wexford knows who killed Angela Hathall but a lack of tangible evidence leaves the Chief Inspector open to accusations of harassment when he pursues the suspect. Undeterred, he embarks on his own, unofficial investigation, desperate to find the proof he needs before the murderer escapes justice.

  • George Baker: “Wexford is a bit susceptible to female allure. In Shake hands for Ever there's a character called Nancy Lake who rather fancied him—and he seemed to reciprocate. I had letters from people wanting to know if they went to bed together. I had to reply that I just didn't know because Ruth Rendell leaves the question unanswered. But, personally, I don't think he'd ever be unfaithful to Dora…”
  • The success of the Wexford series led to George Baker being invited onto the Southampton General Hospital MRI scanner fund-raising committee. The committee went on to raise £2.5 million in eighteen months.
